Amnesia Brewing's $5 Brats, $3.25 Happy Hour Pints

Beers plus brats equals awesome.
It makes sense for some of our initial entries here at TightwadPDX to be the places we're familiar with, right? Amnesia Brewing on the corner of N. Mississippi and Beech ranks among our faves. It's quintessentially no frills, housed inside a tin building with the mash tun barrels just a few feet away from the big wooden picnic tables. In the summer the outside deck rocks, and the food is simple and cheap: right up our alley.

Five bucks gets you a brat (meaty or veggie) with or without sauerkraut and chips, grilled out on the deck. List price on pints is $4.50, nothing special by our cheap-ass standards, but dips to $3.25 Monday to Friday, 4PM to 6PM. And the beer is friggin' great; the Copacetic IPA is one of the best in town, the Porter is more than solid and their seasonals, including the winter Gingerbread Porter, exceptional. Back in the day (until c. 2007) list price for pints was just $3.50(!), $3.00 for happy hour.

The deck is pooch and bike-parking friendly, although I've heard rumors that children are not so welcome.

Low key but nice outdoor ambience.
As OregonLive.com recently reported, Amnesia will be opening a new brewery in The Shoug (aka Washougal, Washington), and will be quadrupling their brewing capacity in the process. Apparently that's where the owners' energies are going, since the company's website has been down for over a month. But eventually, you should be able to find more info here: http://www.amnesiabrewing.com/
